crisis in St.Petersburg and came to Yeltsin\'s attention. Putin got media
attention.

Yeltsin cut a deal to put him in power after Yeltsin was to step down
in exchange for Yeltsin not being shot. Power vacuums are like that.

Russia covers 8 time zones and has half the population of the US. There
are a lot fewer people per unit area, and the US is relatively thin
itself.

And it\'s shrinking. Rapidly.
